Bwlchgwyn Residents' Association doesn't just raise concerns, it works with residents, councillors and other organisations to make practical improvements around the village.
From small community projects to longer-running local issues, this page records some of the ways residents have worked together to make Bwlchgwyn a better place.

A community website for the village
In 2026, a new Bwlchgwyn Community Website was created to give the village its own permanent home online, somewhere residents and visitors can find local information, discover what's happening and learn more about Bwlchgwyn's history.
The website brings together village news, events, community groups, useful information, Village Hall details, Residents' Association updates and an expanding archive of local history, photographs and memories.
Importantly, it's a community project and will continue to grow through contributions, ideas, photographs and memories from people across Bwlchgwyn.
This website is part of that project, and it's only just getting started.

Village entrance planters
Planters have been installed at several of the entrances to Bwlchgwyn, bringing colour to the roadsides and creating a more welcoming first impression of the village for residents and visitors.
They are planted and maintained throughout the year by members of the community, with different flowers bringing colour through the seasons.
It's a simple idea, but one that helps show pride in Bwlchgwyn and care for the place we call home.

Verges & overgrown areas
Where vegetation has become overgrown or areas need attention, members have helped tidy spaces around the village and raised maintenance issues with the appropriate organisations.
A bit of hands-on community spirit: Andrew ‘Podge’ Jones helped to clear the village entrance and cut back the overgrown verges.
Resident's Assocation Chair Allister also runs a 'Tidy Bwlchgwyn' litter picking initative. If you'd like to help out please get in touch!

Restoring the memorial surroundings
Residents Ryan and Ian Jones have been working to tidy and restore the area around the Aircrew Memorial.
Overgrowth has been cleared to create a path around the memorial and restore the view towards the crash site. During the work, the original footings were uncovered, revealing that the memorial once had a stone or gravel base which had gradually disappeared beneath the surrounding vegetation.
The next step is to reinstate this base. Jane Williams has arranged a delivery of stone, helping the project towards completion.

Bwlchgwyn War Memorial
The area around Bwlchgwyn's War Memorial had become increasingly overgrown over the years, with parts of the original garden disappearing beneath hedges and vegetation.
Dead hedging was removed, the paved area cleared, and the benches were repainted and restored. New planters were also installed to bring some colour back into the garden and make it somewhere residents can once again sit and enjoy.
The project became a wider community effort too. Barbara Muspratt kindly donated 135 daffodil bulbs, which were planted around the garden, with further spring flowers welcomed to continue improving the space.
What began as a tidy-up became a much bigger job than anticipated, but the result has brought a neglected part of the village back into use and created a much more welcoming setting around Bwlchgwyn's War Memorial.
A big thank you to Ryan for the many hours of work involved, and to everyone who donated plants, materials or helped along the way.

A stronger sense of place
Finding Bwlchgwyn Village Hall hasn't always been straightforward, particularly for visitors unfamiliar with the village.
The Residents' Association helped address this by arranging new directional signs pointing towards the Village Hall, making it easier for people attending events, activities, meetings and community groups to find their way.
It's a relatively simple improvement, but one that helps make an important village facility more visible and accessible to residents and visitors alike.

A living tribute to a village stalwart
A tree has been planted in Bwlchgwyn in remembrance and recognition of Ann Ankers, a former Chair of Bwlchgwyn Residents' Association and a longstanding member of the village community.
Ann gave her time and energy to the Association and to Bwlchgwyn over many years. The tree provides a living and lasting tribute to her contribution, growing in the village she worked to support.
As it grows, it will continue to commemorate a much-valued village stalwart and her service to the Bwlchgwyn community.
